Business Awards Pub of the Year 2026

For the second year running. We are finalists in the South Norfolk and Broadland Business Awards Pub of the Year. We are incredibly appreciative of all the people who nominated us and for their wonderful comments. They were asked:

“In no more than 100 words, tell us why this pub is great!”

The responses are so heartwarming; we felt we should share them in this post!

If you want to know what a great local pub should be like like then go to the Angel in Loddon. Great food and beer is a given. The owners at what makes this place, real genuine local people who make all feel at home.
Fabulous atmosphere and landlords that really care about their customers and business
Changing array of great craft beers and locally sourced food. Lovely pub staff and a friendly atmosphere.
Great welcoming hosts who have celebrated and promoted hundreds of local suppliers from Norfolk and Suffolk. Lots of social events take place throughout the year too that focus on talented people from the community.Jo and Frank know customers by name and have ambitious plans for accommodation pods, a smokehouse and brewery.
A fabulous selection of regional drinks and foods combined with the best possible welcome and ambiance. I could not wish for a better pub in a wonderful small market town in Norfolk
Great supporters of local producers
So many real ales to choose from, it’s like a beer festival every week. All drinks and food are locally sourced and Landlord Frank’s cakes and bread are delicious. Always a warm welcome, it’s like home from home
Due to ill health, I haven’t had the opportunity to attend the awesome events held at The Angel Inn, but I have experienced their breakfasts; cakes and coffee and the quality is superb.
There’s  always a warm welcome, in a clean and cosy environment.
A fantastic pub with a real community feel  – Loddon is so lucky to have this
Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, great company, regular well-chosen events, this is how a pub should be! Jo and Frank have somehow hit on a winning formula, which just keeps getting better. Of the 4 pubs in Loddon, this is the only one which is unfailingly welcoming, like an extension of home.
Beer enthusiasts, lovers of local produce and a true community hub. They organised (educational!) brewery tours, they are kid+dog friendly, run local music gigs for people in the village to play, they have food/fish trucks, celebrating big events like Oktoberfest. 100 words is not enough!
Great pub. Great beer. Great choice. Great atmosphere and everything is local.
Great personal service, supporting local breweries and food producers. Involving and supporting events and promoting Loddon and wider area.
The Angel Inn in Loddon gets my vote, because, owners Frank and Jo provide an exceptional, warm welcome that makes every visit special. They are highly valued as engaging hosts.
The pub’s appeal is further enhanced by its commitment to quality: you appreciate the delicious, locally sourced artisan food and the excellent selection of local craft beers and ales. It is a place where great hospitality and quality local produce consistently combine to offer a fantastic experience.
It’s the sense of community, the atmosphere created and the approach of the landlord and landlady to the community as a whole including residence, other businesses and local suppliers.

Their commitment to resourcing local quality products and presenting these products through their establishment in the best way possible is 2nd to none.

In short they are epitomise a business that conducts itself in the right way for its community
Welcoming, lovely owners and incredible selection of local ales in a historic Loddon pub.
Super friendly pub, with all locally produced food and drinks. There is many events held at the pub. There’s always a warm welcome!
Jo and Frank have brought something new and refreshing to Loddon with a great selection of artisan beers, wines and spirits, and delicious hand-crafted food, blended with a warm welcome and cosy ambience. A great little pub with a strong community focus, perfect for chewing the cud!
A great vibe, with an excellent selection of ales.
It’s a real community pub supporting local suppliers.
A warm, welcoming and wonderful family run pub!
Welcoming friendly vibe for everyone and their furry friends. Great wines and beers plus special food nights too. A lovely cracking fire. Bar billiards and games. Beautiful decor … I could go on but in a nutshell … The Angel Loddon is the best ❤️
As someone who doesn’t drink alcohol they have one of the best “alcohol free” beers on tap. I’ve been during the day with my children and at night with friends and always get the same friendly greeting. The little children’s toys add a personal touch. I also like the fact that you go in here knowing you’re not only supporting the pub but the local community too through not only their produce but musicians and food trucks too.
The staff are super friendly and always knowledgeable about the wide variety of guest beers on offer which change regularly but maintain consistency of standard. The environment is light and bubbly making guests feel relaxed and keen interact with each other over good old fashioned conversation. There is a good offer of entertainment and use of the outdoor space. It has a home from home atmosphere
Great beer. All local, and very well kept.  Good food.
Jo & Frank friendly & welcoming, participating in local events such as Victorian Evening & the Arts festival.
Always a lovely atmosphere.
Great community pub that always has a welcome for newcomers as well as many loyal regulars
Great community vibe; amazing real ales. Love the focus on Norfolk products and care for their customers.
Champions East Anglian beer and always a different and varied selection available and a perfect pint. It’s a community pub, open for conversations, games and a positive experience.
Frank and Jo are creating  something wonderful,  a place where many can enjoy artisan food and drink presented in a delightful way. There are always very different events on the calendar to entertain their customers.  With their plans for the future  this is work in progress.
You always know you’ll get a warm welcome from Jo and Frank when you arrive. They know so many of their customers by name. It’s great that they support so many local suppliers. The many fun events they host help to bring the community together.
There Heart and Soul goes into every adventure they contour up for there customers, same with the wines and beers that are served so much pride goes into delivering the best tasting drinks. Not much to say really
Excellent choice of well kept beer, friendly efficient service both for visitors and locals. The food is excellent. The Angel is everything a pub should be.
The land lady Jo, is the perfect host, introducing customers to each other and making sure ever feels welcome. The landlord Frank prides himself on locally sourced produce and uses feedback from customers to always provide variety as well as favourites. The environment is conducive to being sociable with friends and visitors to the village. Just wonderful
Not only does it serve high quality, locally sourced beers and food items – it really is a pub of the community. New bands and musicians given chances to perform, local charities such as ChetChat hosting quizzes and raffles FoC, tennis group meets here, book club (x 2) and friendships begin here. The locals all support one another as modelled by Jo and Frank and everyone is welcome. A heartwarming pub, truly.
A cosy and friendly social hub, great variety of fresh ales.
My wife and I visit whenever we are in the area and are always given a friendly welcome by Jo and Frank. The beers and wines are excellent and well kept. The home made cakes and scones are extremely tasty.
A great community hub that brings the whole village, and beyond, together. It serves the best from local producers – in particular a wonderful selection of local ales, and the food, especially the platters, is legendary. Several events held throughout the year, supporting local organisations and generally having great fun. It’s the linchpin of Loddon social life.

Such a lovely pub, a warm and friendly environment, Jo and Frank go out of their way to make you feel at home. I love that they stay true to their beliefs and only use local.
Quality food and drink, affordable prices, fantastic owners, who not only understand their product, but also the essence of what a pub should be. Embodies the saying “there are no strangers here, just friends you haven’t met yet”. They are a true asset to the community.
Always get a lovely welcome. Often by our names. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Usually some one interesting to talk to. It has a real community feel to it. There is a piano that anyone can feel free to play. Makes interesting listening as well. The wine is delicious and family supplied from Germany. Not one you could buy anywhere else. The scones are delicious as are the platters made to order.
Fantastic local pub with great and much needed community spirit with an ever changing flow of local beers and excellent locally sourced food…always a warm welcome from the owners Frank and Jo

Best of all, they stay true to their “buy local” philosophy, proudly supporting nearby breweries and producers. It’s a place with real heart and easily the best pub around.
Great local produce and super service
Fantastic local pub, championing the best local beers, spirits and produce.  Amazing atmosphere whether it’s a quiet Monday or a busy Saturday. The owners always have time for a chat and a recommendation or two. The beautiful building is being lovingly looked after and improved.  Couldn’t wish for a finer local.
Although we live 276 miles away we are always greeted as locals when we visit our boat moored at Chedgrave. Jo and Frank are great hosts and provide excellent food and drink and also make our dogs welcome too. We just wish we could go more often.
It’s like stepping back in time where time stands still. They have uniquely made a village pub bubble of delight. Friendly warm welcome always, great choice of beers & wines. Fab home-made food. Cosy atmosphere with a wonderful events calendar. Forward thinking owners who are diverse & thinking to the future to grow their business. Locals already rely on this pub as a hub to socialise. So lovely to see our elderly often forgotten generation sitting at the bar socialising when the days must seem long living on your own. Loddon would now be lost without it. A brave step for Frank & Jo & family to take it on but you have smashed it!!!! Well done 👏🏼
Great community atmosphere, great beers, great wines, great service. All extolling the virtues of fantastic local produce. Why go anywhere else!!
